And I’d get him to swap our places

Fell in love with this song, mid-90s, Campbellford, ON, CAN: Adam West – Running Up That Hill

Watched a movie with superheroes running up buildings on Friday night (at the drive-in)

Saw a band on Monday (Tuesday? nope, Wednesday) night that reminisced  touring with Kate Bush

Watched half a movie based on a novel that I’ve been meaning to read yesterday with a lot of really sad moments, some involving a bowler hat, some not.

Came across a blog post about Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, covered by Chromatics and realized I’d completed a tiny (albeit 14 year spanning) interweb circle.

Happy birthday Kris!! Here’s what comes up on my phone when you call :)

Note: this photograph is not, and never should be confused with the real Kris Merola.

Gettin ‘er done since 1981

From the desk I’m currently occupying in the VSW Research Centre (CentER, sorry yanks), I’m surrounded in books way older than most people on Facebook, and to my left is a poster for a John Brumfield/Esther Parada exhibition held Jan 16 – Feb 13, 1981 in the Visual Studies Wokshop Gallery. (I was born Fri, Jan 30, 1981.)
Here is the first quote I came upon in googling ‘quote history’

History is a cyclic poem written by Time upon the memories of man. ~Percy Bysshe Shelley

The point is not the grammar, it’s the feeling

Rollercoaster metaphor week. Weather included.

(your art here) opening at Visual Studies Workshop: none of the kids showed up (sad, but I understand), lots of other folks showed up (happy, the students artwork got ‘out there’), we got some great donations from local businesses (again, happy, thanks to: Wegmans, Piatza’s pizza) And help from lots of awesome VSDubbers (Kris, Laraine in the office, Sally the librarian, Eric Le Roy, Rich Della Costa and all the Media Literacy Initiative members, old and new (Rich, Marlene, this means you guys :) )

Kriby’s 20×200 edition: almost sold out. Yay for beards and fortune cookie photographs!

6×6x2008 at RoCo: somewhat overwhelming heat, somewhat underwhelming art.

Booksmart Studio Circulation Show: killer job Justin, Mickey Smith? Wow.

This: Somthing nice poster via CDR

is really great. Todd Falkowsky is my favourite poster (puntended) over at the Canadian Design Resource. His stuff is always weird and funny.

I’m standing on my fortune

The VSDubbers are blowing the (number) x (number) art world away with their picture-makin.

Kirby Pilcher (Beard #2) has an edition up on Jen Bekman’s 20×200 a few short weeks after Luke Strosnider (Beard #1) sold out his edition of the lot of VSW chairs.

Quick, go buy one before they sell out.

Also, check out 6×6x2008 at Rochester Contemporary this Friday for more VSDub alumni action.

And, if you are up for some First Friday art hopping, stop by Visual Studies Workshop to see (your art here), an exhibition of media-focussed artwork from two Rochester City high schools.
