INstallation - Missing Persons - Steven Stewart

One of my classmates from undergrad has a great looking show up at Karsh-Masson Gallery in Ottawa. Those photographs make me awfully homesick. I used to live in The Kimberly. It had a lovely wood-panelled entrance-way.

Nice work, Mr. Stewart. Bien. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

Robert Frank, originally uploaded by ethernautrix.

Guess who has been rollin’ around in my head lately…?

I wish I was in San Francisco area still, to see this exhibition…but…then I never would have heard Bill Johnson’s lectures on the famed Polaroid project*.

Hey SFAI art kids — you only get to read Frank’s quotes on the wall, we got to hear them, first hand, from someone who knows him. Spine shivers. When people ask me why I picked VSW for grad school — that will be high up on the list of the many reasons.

* Robert Frank, Robert Heineken, Dave Heath and John Wood. Project observed by Bill Johnson & Susie Cohen in 1980-83 (ish–will have to check my notebook). Recounted by Bill J. in Contemporary Photography Seminar, Visual Studies Workshop, Spring 2009.

I seen pretty people disappear like smoke. Friends will arrive, friends will disappear…

I have been posting in an awfully negative way, lately. Time to reread Franny & Zooey and humble myself, again, again.

Some positivisms, to get me through my distraction spell:

-I found my thesis starting point on Sunday and photographed the hell out of it. Probably won’t use those images (abandoned buildings… so so done) but seeing that font, that Labelon sign above the door, made me chest skip a few. I’m a scavenger at heart.

- a friend of mine recently sold a book of his to the Library of Congress — pretty cool and a way bigger deal than he and his brilliant wife (who is also making her mark all over the map) are makin it out to be…oh, modesty. Will post links and stuff once it is official, or at least announced on his online message board.

- the Monroe branch of the library has Dexter AND Mad Men on dvd! AND 32 Short Films About Glenn Gould… bring on the summertime lazy movie watchin…

- afterimage 37.1 is *almost* done. And I’m sneaking in some new design stuff… we’ll see if it lasts the proofing stage…

See? I don’t have to stomp all over everything I find.

‘If you want me, honey baby,
I’ll be here.’

(been stuck in my head since Sunday)

RIT will never understand VSW and VSW will never understand RIT, fully, completely.

Trying to be more like a Built to Spill album and get things done in a timely fashion. It’s against my nature, but I’m so tired of falling back on my nature.

With that in mind, here is some new work. Straight to DVD!! (err…flickr, rather)

Gettin ‘er done since 1981

From the desk I’m currently occupying in the VSW Research Centre (CentER, sorry yanks), I’m surrounded in books way older than most people on Facebook, and to my left is a poster for a John Brumfield/Esther Parada exhibition held Jan 16 – Feb 13, 1981 in the Visual Studies Wokshop Gallery. (I was born Fri, Jan 30, 1981.)
Here is the first quote I came upon in googling ‘quote history’

History is a cyclic poem written by Time upon the memories of man. ~Percy Bysshe Shelley
