The last of Polaroid film stock expires next month. Will it go the way of the spotted owl? Will Urban Hipsterfitters and Overpriced Polaroid Distributors be able to save it?

Is Kodachrome the new Polaroid (and was Polaroid the new Lomo?)?

June 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Oh great… now every hipster with a 35mm is gonna be gumming up the works at Dwayne’s.

{Photojojo » Photojojo’s Guide to Kodachrome}

Hey Everybody! Don’t use Kodachrome – trust me, you will hate it. I’ve heard they are discontinuing flash memory… QUICK! Stock up on SD cards or CF cards or whatever your expensive digi-cam uses and get out there and take some JPEGs! or RAWs! Before they are gone!

Robert Frank, originally uploaded by ethernautrix.

Guess who has been rollin’ around in my head lately…?

I wish I was in San Francisco area still, to see this exhibition…but…then I never would have heard Bill Johnson’s lectures on the famed Polaroid project*.

Hey SFAI art kids — you only get to read Frank’s quotes on the wall, we got to hear them, first hand, from someone who knows him. Spine shivers. When people ask me why I picked VSW for grad school — that will be high up on the list of the many reasons.

* Robert Frank, Robert Heineken, Dave Heath and John Wood. Project observed by Bill Johnson & Susie Cohen in 1980-83 (ish–will have to check my notebook). Recounted by Bill J. in Contemporary Photography Seminar, Visual Studies Workshop, Spring 2009.

POLAPREMIUM – nothin new here :(

November 28, 2008 · 1 Comment

So… from my cursory look, Polapremium is just a slick catch-all Polaroid camera/film/accessories e-biz.

All expiry dates are notes, and film is priced… fairly high. I’m guessing this is an unsaleable offshoot for the North American audience?

Too bad they got everyone excited by the claim “the new home of instant photography”

Boo.

Lots of folks are counting down…
These posters are my favourite morning RSS feed, right now.

I have 6 rolls of film, 3GB, and a handful or Polaroids from this weekend’s trip to New York City. Sort time!
