Wallpapers with swears

I love this blog. NSFW, even with their Family Edition turned on (cussing brilliant!)

I have been making wallpapers on my down time. Wait…. I don’t HAVE downtime. Okay, I have been making wallpapers while waiting for client approval.

Here is my latest, in honour of grow-a-teen’stache month (sorry, “Mo-vember”):

Moustachio dot gif, by robynmakesstuff. Go ahead and steal it.

And yes, it’s a gif with a transparent background, so you can try them on your facebook pics. Please post your results in comments, if you are so nerdily inclined. I might.

Oh, St. Marie…

I really like this font (and not just becuase it is free). It cuts a little of the cuteness that is the inescapable Archer light (Martha Stewart, y’all! You want to look like Martha Stewart? Keep using it!).

More free fonts that are worth takin a look at over at DSIGN BUZZ. Thank you to Bogdan (odd to me that people are still using handles online) for sorting them out and including the bests. (Could Slimbo be any cooler? And Matchbook makes my ovaries hurt. Bordering that fine line between too much and just-enough cuteness) My font library is overrun with terrible freebie fonts I downloaded on some late night whim, so 30 good ones is a killer find.

“While Gotham is at the science fair, I’m banging the prom queen behind the woodshop.”

Font snob hilarity. With a felt-tipped marker. I wonder if the prom queen is Curlz?

And isn’t this just throwing wood on the fire? Seriously. Those are some uglyass t-shirts.

And why hasn’t their been a movement against Mistral. C’mon hipsters. Look at how gross this is:

Wait– someone has PAID for this?

Okay, I’m done. I’m dancing on the ceiling.

A little while back, MOMA rocked the highly internetty* design world when it added the asperand (at sign) to it’s architecture and design collection. As I try to condense my resume further & further, I realize they have made a wildly erroneous choice, and should have gone with the easier-to-pronounce, and more fun to draw ampersand.

Just kidding, let’s keep ampersand an underdog. Fame makes people batty.

Some press: MOMA justifies inclusion of @ and NYTimes coverage, with more allusions and pop references than you can throw an Underwood typewriter @.

* internettyadjective, informal. to be highly versed in online goings on. synonyms: tweety, flickry, bloggery, wikipedia-y, lastfmy, bookfacey, constant contacty, waybackmachiney, rssfeedy, ubunetty, lolcatsy, amazonebayzapposy. antonym: my mom.

I have had an enormous design crush on Todd Falkowsky since coming across a Becker’s post by the (also very design crushworthy) Hannah Wise on the Canadian Design Resource.

He is still making cool things, and now he’s forming young pencil-propped design minds as well.

Go see his pick for this year’s colour. {Oh WordPress, quit trying to correct my perfect spelling.}

Also, if you are a Canadian designer (or a Canada-based designer) and you are going to be in Toronto on May 30email me ASAP. I have some exciting top secret project news to disperse, and I’m looking for participants. Ones who understand why this is funny:

Ed. Note: Thank you Hannah for catchin my Becker’s blip 😉 You two design-fiends keep doin what you are doin – CDR should be on everyone’s radar rss feeds.

I was complaining about the sudden ubiquity of Mrs. Eaves (really *pretty* serif typeface), and yes, it was one of those indie-snob complaints that might be better placed in HIgh Fidelity music-dork territory than font-dork territory.

And now –Zuzana Licko at Emigre brings us — MR. Eaves! He’s pretty too, but hopefully not so distinct that he stands out in a crowd. A strong, silent, slightly dickish Don Draper typeface.

Thanks for the head’s up Jim.

Do you have another opinion?
